I'm taking the stage these days with a pair of Mahogany Folk with L.R. Baggs Duet II pickup. I'm liking this Artist Series guitar quite a bit... The smaller body may not look like much but lemme tell ya... that Duet II can fill any room I've had to play so far. They sound wonderful acoustic as well.
These are currently being dressed in Martin Light gauge
strings... I've tried a couple of other brands though the years,
and I just keep coming back to Martin strings...
The newest addition has been a Seagull
20th Anniversary guitar... Cedar Top... LR Baggs I-Beam
Pick
up... The first high gloss finish guitar I've owned in about 16
years
or so, and I gotta admit, I LOVE it... You won't see it at gigs with
me,
but if you go to Oddenough.com
and send in an email asking for the CD, An Oddly
Distracting Christmas, you'll get to hear it on a couple of
tracks there...
My S6+ has finally been retired to the guitar stand beside the bookshelf in the living room. I've had this guitar for about 15 years or so and she's certainly earned the rest. She's cracked under the pick guard, her frets are worn nearly flat up to the 5th or 7th fret. Add to that the fact that there's no pick up in her anymore, she'll be my 'around the house' or Open G guitar...
My S6+CW has the L.R. Baggs Acoustic Timbre pick up in it. It was a fine stage guitar until the intonation went out due to improper humidification. Currently it's living in Chatham where Mike is using it to pick up chicks :-)
A Boss ME-10 Effects Peddle... really very cool... It's actually way too much effects peddle for an acoustic geek like me, but I'm having fun with it so far... Especially since I got my Authentic Copy of an Original Les Paul Knock Off (more info soon...)
I have an original parts 1970 voice that I'm trying to remove the smoke finish from. I keep it properly humidified with a combination of Guinness and Tullamore Dew .
I tune with a new Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner. A great piece of tuner for loud rooms and wild bar gigs. But I prefer to use my Sabine AX-2000 stick-on tuner in acoustic settings.
My Bodhran was handcrafted in Ireland by Tipperary Music and is kept properly humidified by what ever it is that passes for water in Windsor. It may not be the best of drums, and the Guinness logo on is admittedly on the cheesy side, but for the $ at the Ottawa Folklore Centre it has served the purpose.. I mic it using an Optimus Ultra-Miniature Tie Clip Mic from Radio Shack. This is a picture of where I have it placed. Here.
Although I am having trouble finding a lot of places to put them, when I do, The Pub Prop has proven itself invaluable... beats lugging around a big 3 pronged guitar stand... Like I said, the only problem is finding places where I gig to clamp it... If you want one go to Briarmill and order one... tell them that "Clinton Hammond from The Mudcat Cafe" sent ya and see if they don't give ya a good deal... They are damn good folks!
New development... At a pub gig gig a few nights ago, I discovered that my 2 Pub Props hold my 2 Mahogany Folk Seagulls in 2 sides of a barstool just perfectly! And I then have the barstool for drinks, crying towels, what-have you.... So these things just keep getting better and better!
I have also invented (??? o.k... more like cobbled together ???) a THING that makes my Pub Props even more useful... Have a look and offer feedback in my Guestbook or use my Contact Page
Here's another little thing
that I'm debating about... A bunch of people have recommended it to
me... I've contacted LaSiDo to find out their take on it... JLD Bridge System
LaSiDo had very little to say except that installing this would
void my already expired warranty... They've never tried it... And
I've
kinda decided not to monkey with my guitars this drastically!
In Guitar Resources all I have
right now is a wicked cool DADGAD
Tuning Chord chart in pdf format...
It's got more info on in that it really needs... a lot of the chords
are real finger breakers
that completely undo any benefit one would get from playing in an open
tuning...
But with a little patience, even the novice DADGADer can find the
chords
that work on this chart.... I hope to one day make a good
collection
of chord charts for other alternate tunings. Stay tuned eh!
DADGAD Info... Ya wanna get started in DADGAD, get
yourself a copy of Stan
Rogers songbook "Songs
From Fogarty's Cove"... Not only is it a very well
written, well bound and immensely entertaining book... It's also a
GREAT place to
start trying new tunings... Also stay tuned here for information
regarding 2 soon to be, no doubt very useful song books... one from Stephen Fearing,
and one from Garnet Rogers...
Man I can't wait! :-)
This is my upcoming Schedule
